Hello,
Is there any known problem with copying cells with data validation (list)
from excel 2000 workbook to excel 2003 workbook ?

Copy / Paste - paste the values and formats but not the dropdown list.

First, there are no such things as an Excel 2000 workbook and an Excel 2003
workbook.

Workbooks created in either version are compatible.

Copy>Paste Special>Values and Number Formats>OK

Paste Special>Formats>OK>Esc

Thanks Gord,
In this case (that the versions don't have any effect) , is there another
reason why in some cases I can't copy a data validation from one workbook to
another ?

It seems I mis-understood the original question. I thought you wanted to
copy/paste without taking the DV.

Where is the DV list located? Typed into the dialog box? Taken from a range
of cells on the same sheet? A named range on another sheet?

When you copy>paste special do you select "All"?

Gord,
The DV list is very short "1,2,3" so it was typed into the dialog box
I'm using regular paste, not paste special.
I sent the file to some users - most of them could copy the cells with DV
but two users couldn't.
They manage to create the simple DV by themselves but I wonder what is the
reason for this problem.

Not quite what's happening here.

I am running 3 versions of Excel on my computer...97, 2002 and 2003

Save a workbook in 97 or 2002 version.

Open the workbook in 2003 version, no problems with the DV cell.

If I have 2 Excel versions open simultaneously, say 97 and 2003.......

I copy a range of cells, one of which has a DV lsit of 1,2,3,4,5,6 from the 97
workbook and paste to a workbook open in the 2003 session, the DV list will
not paste over and Paste Special options are as Object, HTML, Unicode Text
etc.

Is this your scenario?

Gord,
You wrote HTML and it gave me an idea.
I sent the file via internet forum so I can guess (and later I will ask)
that some users opened the file directly in the browser and then they
couldn't copy the DV.
I tried it myself this morning and it's really don't copy, I will verify
later that this is the case for these users but I'm quite sure.
Thanks for your help.
