Copy and paste doesn't insert copied text, it inserts screen cap

When I cut and paste (or copy and paste) in Word 2003, the selected text (or
a selected graphic) doesn't paste. Instead, a screen capture of the entire
screen I am working in is pasted instead. When I open the Office Clipboard,
it is stuffed full of countless screen captures, all exactly the same as what
is being erroneously pasted. Clearing the clipboard doesn't do anything, and
trying to delete each individual item in the clipboard doesn't work either. I
have investigated all Tools/Options settings, all Clipboard settings, and I
just can't make this go away. Help!
 
Hello, I'm having this problem as well, but in Word 2002. Have you got
anywhere with it since this question was posted?

No, nobody has responded. All that has happened for is that the problem has
stopped for a while. But it seems to re-appear on a whim.

Thanks for the response. After several hours' searching on the net, I found
a solution. The problem isn't with Word, but is a relatively rare hardware
fault. Someone has come up with a small program which will fix it - I
downloaded it, and it solved the problem. I can't put the link here for some
reason, but type 'Business Support Forums Sam Grover Copy Paste' into Google,
click on the first link, scroll down and download Sam G's second attachment.
It sets up on your desktop, and if you run it every time you start up, it
disables 'print screen', meaning you can cut and paste as normal.

problem with HP laptops.

key is randomly pressed, and what ever you copied is overwritten by the
screenshot. This has nothing to do with the programs you run. it is present
even if you are not running windows, in setup screen you can hear the beeps
of the continuosly and randomly pressed key(print screen) i have the same
problem and no one even hp couldn't help. sometimes quite less it
disappears. updating bios didn't work, using and external keyboard didn't
work, reinstalling windows didn't work, if someone can help i'll be glad
too."

My bet is that it's a bent keyboard assembly. I had the same problem on an
Apple iBook (the old clamshell one). The keys sit on an aluminium plate,
which can get bent while working on the machine. If it does, the front side
of the screen fouls the top row of keys when you close the lid, causing
these stuck/intermittent keys.

Keys can be removed: Slide a knife gently under the edge of the key and
lever gently upwards. The key will pop out (catch it...). Inspect under it
carefully for signs of damage, bending, distortion, coffee, cigarette ash,
chewing gum... Replace the key top and press firmly until it clicks into
position.

If you cant find it, take the machine back to a repair depot and get them to
change the keyboard for you.

Disabling the PrintScreen command in the hardware is not such a great idea:
you won't be able to take nay screen captures :-)

Ted and John, thanks for taking the time to help me with this. I too was
leery of disabling print screen, as I do a lot of screen caps. As far as the
HP connection, this is happening to me on an IBM Thinkpad (and only on the
IBM...in fact, I use an HP at work and don't have the problem). I haven't
noticed any keyboard problems, in fact, my IBM keyboard was replaced sometime
in the last 1.5 years. But I will look over my keyboard just in case. Thanks.
