copies of pictures when moved to folder

I have been trying to organize My Pictures and every time I highlight then
copy ( and have tried cut) and then go to the folder I want to move them to,
it also copies to the place I am trying to clean... Ended up with 3 copies
before I realized what was going on. Can someone please tell me what I need
to change? I have tried doing several as well as trying one at a time...

oops i found the answer a page or two back... havent tried it yet but wanted
