Well I asked specifically for this one
http://www.digitalet.com/Items/fan-c33218-002 because I already have it and
its unbelivable noisy :-(
When this thing is on people in the room next to mine hear it like a vacum
cleaner.
I was just curious about the dB since cant find any specs about that on the
net.
Anyway do you think that Zalman 7000B-AlCu Cooler, sck 754/462/478 will do
the cooling fine (with this old cooler temperature is 50'c, its Intel 4
presccot 2.4 GhZ) ?
I thought about the 7000 after I posted that. I have a couple 7000's here
actually, and my current computer has a 7000 on it. I cannot hear it
over my case fan, but there is a reason for that. My case fan is a
120x120x38 monster

(110CFM when cranked.)
I think a 7000 would be a good choice. My 3.1GHz Northwood gets to 47C when
Prime95 is running. I was just testing a new version of Prime95 I downloaded
a few minutes ago. Room temp is 25C, case is 29C. My processor is drawing
72W (measured), so theta_R is (47-29)/72 or about 0.25C/W. (You can look up
the TDP in watts of your processor, on processorfinder.intel.com, to compare
to mine.) To figure out your estimated CPU temp, it would be case_temp plus (theta_R
times TDP) for the new cooler.
I mentioned the Typhoon, because it was designed more with low noise in
mind. They could have had better cooling performance on that one, if
they used a stronger fan. But they chose a weaker fan instead, to
reduce the noise.
I run the 7000 at full speed, and haven't tried to drop it, because
I'd never hear the difference over the case fan. In the other computer,
I can hear the 7000, but not its not so bad.
