USMT
(User State Migration Tool)
and/or
FAST wizard
(Files and Settings Transfer Wizard)
Does that work on the same box (USMT/FAST)? What we did is renamed
their current profile to username.copy and then changed the
corresponding entry identified by ProfileImagePath to username.copy.
Logged in with their domain account which will create a new domain
profile and then use the profile copy utility to copy the local profile
over the domain one.
We had to give the users full rights to C: and make them power users to
get this to work (not my idea).
My idea would have been to login with the domain account and then
delete that profile directory and then change the entry in
ProfileImagePath that references the domain account to the local
profile. THEN, I would have added explicit rights for the domain
account to the registry and all files in the local profile folder.
With the first method, the passwords for all web pages and Outlook will
get scrambled, so you have to re-key those in. I don't know about my
"theoretical method" and whether it preserves the passwords or not.
