converting xls format into csv format

How do I convert xls file into csv? I tried to do save as, change extansion
into csv, but it gives me promt that saved file may contain features that are
not comparable with csv.

If you save a file as a normal workbook (*.xls), you get all the
formatting--colors/fonts/borders/etc. And all the formulas and all the
worksheets.

If you save a file as .csv, you get plain old text--no formatting, no formulas
and only the active sheet.

Excel is just trying to warn you that you may be losing stuff--if you've already
saved the original as a normal .xls file, then you can ignore this message (you
have your real file already!).

And when you say you change the extension, you do mean that you changed the
"save as type" box to Comma separated values, right?
