Converting WP files to Word 2003

Hi, I've about 100 seminar papers I need to read but they are *.WP files.
I've searched the web and downloaded and tried an old WP converter - Word
Perfect Text Converter - which adds stuff to the registery with MERGE. I
also put the two files - wpft532.cnv and wpft632.cnv - in C:\Program
Files/common files/Microsoft shared/textconv - but have had no success. I
remember doing exactly the same thing two years ago and it worked. The only
difference now is that I have a different laptop (TP 60X instead of a TP T41,
but all the same software. Quite desperate for this and puzzled as to why
something that worked previously won't work now.

Hi Graham, I've been to this website, downloaded the 'WordPerfect Converter
for Word (WPCONV.zip)', followed the instructions: ' Extract the cnv files
to the folder C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\TextConv
and merge the reg file into the registry (right click in Windows Explorer
and select 'merge')', but it does not work. I've tried 5 times! I did
exactly this 2 years ago on my old laptop (Thinkpad T41), and succeeded first
time, But now, with the same copy of Office 2003 on my new 60X Thinkpad, it
just won't work.

How can I check that the stuff that is supposed to go into the Registery
actually gets there?

What part doesn't work?
The REG file is a text file that can be opened in Notepad to display the
keys that it changes. You can edit the registry manually to add the keys if
you prefer.
Note that double clicking the WP document file from Explorer is unlikely to
work. Open the file from Word. If you want to see the files with a *.WP
extension listed when you select 'open with', you are going to have to add
the extension to the list of extensions in the relevant keys. Otherwise set
Word tools > options > general to 'confirm conversion on open' and pick the
converter when prompted.

Hi Graham, I've checked that all the entries that are listed in the REG file
(viewed in Notepad) are there in the REGISTERY, which is what I expected as I
followed the instructions to Merge them. I've also changed the OPTIONs in
Word to display 'confirm conversion on open'. When I try to open a WP file
when in Word, although I now get the CONVERT FILE/WordPerfect 6.X selected,
when I OK this, I once again get the message 'MS Office needs a converter ...
.... Installing .... Original Installation Source Req'd' and I'm asked to put
in my Office 2003 CD. And, this time, putting in the Office 2003 CD actually
worked!

So I've got there. But I don't understand why the Office 2003 CD worked
this time. I expected Word to convert the WP files after changing the
Registery entries and putting the two *.cnv files in TxtConv folder.

It shouldn't have prompted for the CD, but no matter, as long as it works

Yes, I'll have to remember to insert the Office CD the next ime I change my
laptop - just in case. Just happy that it now all works!
