Assuming it works as advertised, it seems to me I should convert my web site
to DWT. I have over 200 web pages that are mostly text with some other
standard elements (logo, navigation, etc.). Plenty of people enter my site
through pages other than the home page, and DWT will allow me to put
updates, new product alerts and so on throughout the site simply by editing
the DWT -- and of course I'll be able to update or even completely change my
design if I wish. In my first stab at this I identified five or six editable
areas, including the page title, page summary and of course the main
content.
One way to do the conversion is to create a blank new page with the DWT
attached for each existing page, and copy each of the required elements from
the old page to the editable areas of the new one. Then I suppose I would
just save the new version with the same filename as the old one, replacing
the old, non-template page with the new one that has the DWT wrapped around
it.
Another way would be to attach the DWT to the old page. As far as I can
tell, the whole page will go into one editable area (presumably the one for
main content) and I would have to cut and paste elements like the page
summary into the other editable areas and finally eliminate all the
extraneous material (like navigation) that is now part of the DWT.
Both of these seem pretty laborious when dealing with over 200 pages. Is
there an easier way? Or a way that's better even if not easier?
TIA,
