Converting Raid 0 to Raid 0+1

H

hd2000fxdl

I know this probable belongs in a diffrent forum but I have gotten
great help here before and I am using an ASUS K8V Delux card.

I am building a Raid 0 system right now using WD HD's. It will be a
Raid 0 setup using the Promise conections.

My question is If I decide to convert to a Raid 0+1 setup down the
road what problems will I have in this change over. My plan if I do go
to a Raid 0+1 setup will then use 4 identical HD's, I won't mix size
or types at all.

My OS is XP Pro.

Any comments?

Hmm. OK - right up front; I have not actually performed this particular
feat. BUT...

I'm gonna say it will be no problem. [Because] when you config a MIRRORED
array...and you already have one disk with data on it, the RAID BIOS will
simply copy the loaded disk onto the empty disk...and then maintain the
newer disk as an exact clone of the original.

So, if you create a STRIPED array, and then come along later and add another
pair of disks...the RAID BIOS will do the same thing it did in the first
example. i.e. clone the original disk -- which is actually TWO disks, but
that's our little secret -- onto the second pair.

Voila; instant mirror.

Please post a follow-up.
