Converting pirated OS to legitimate OS

A

Abhijit Mirajkar

Hi,

I recently bought a second-hand PC from a friend. I didn't pay much
attention to the legitimity of the OS at that time.
However now I see that it's pirated one :-( I would really like to
have a legitimate OS.

As I like Windows XP, I want to but one. However I want to know if I
can retain all my programs and settings and still upgrade it? Or do I
have to remove my current OS (probably by formatting) and reinstall
all the applicatinos again?

Please suggest.
Thanks,

Regards,
Abhijit

You'll have to purchase a new "Full Version" of Windows XP Professional
and perform a "Repair Install" using the new Windows XP Pro CD and Product Key
that comes with it. (You cannot simply change the Product Key)
