Converting .MOV to .AVI

Does anyone know how to convert quicktimes .MOV file to Windows .AVI file,
preferably for free?
 
There are a number of apps out there to do it, even free ones (do a google
for mov2avi) however if the video is something you need to maintain quality
on I'd strongly suggest spending the $30 to buy QuickTime pro. It provides
multiple output methods for doing just this.

I have successfully used the tools at

http://www.radgametools.com/bnkdown.htm

to convert .mov to .avi. Its worth pointing out that when you do the
conversion you need to pick a video codec that will exist on any machine the
..avi is likely to be played on.

Another tool you I've successfully used is,

http://sourceforge.net/projects/mp4cam2avi/

I take this one step further and turn the .avi into .wmv using Windows Movie
Maker.
