An EXE file is an executable file. If you don't know what it is, I
would keep away from it. Virus or critical system program come to mind.
If you think it is a database file, then I suggest you try looking at it
using WinZip. It may be a self extracting zip file and WinZip will open it
up and tell you if that is what it is. It can also extract it for you.
