Converting Drive to NTFS

I have a customer that thought it would be a good idea to
convert his laptop from FAT32 to NTFS, but during the
conversion the battery died and now I just get a blank
screen. My question is: is there a way to recover from
this and if not will any of his files be ok if I put his
drive on a system as a slave?

Any help would be apreciated.

It is not the exact solution, but you may be able to
follow the boot up procedure using the CD as the
instructions say and may be able to run a repair.
