want is my mpeg vids back to mpeg form but i am unsure how to do it.ive tried
to add the files as music and as video but they are recognized as read only
files now.How do i convert them back? any help is much appreciated.

Try renaming them to MPEG files....... (in Windows Explorer, click on Tools,
Folder Options, View and ensure that you UNCHECK the box to hide extensions
for known file types.

If they really are MPEG videos, you will certainly now be able to play them,
but Windows Movie Maker does not really like editing MPEG files... it's
designed for DV-AVI files, AVI files and WMV files. Sometimes it works just
fine, but other times it may 'misbehave' with MPEGs. Third party editors
like Nero, Roxio, WinDVD Creator and PowerDirector do not exhibit this
behavior with MPEG files.

i attempted to rename the file, did so and it still says im trying to open a
DAT file ive tried to get the media player to recognize the files but it wont
I cannot add them in any form that i have found.i can find the folder and
file but it shows nothing in it.when i open it manually it say im opening a
DAT file and it forces me to pick which player i want to use......it
playsback just fine but never without having to go to 3 - 4 different screens
first ....all warning that it is a DAT file. Ive got several different ways
to burn vids (windows ,roxio and so on) but how can i copy it if it wont be
recognized as a video
