Converting AVI fiels to MPEG

Hi,
I have AVI files created by by digital camera that I
would like to convert to the much smaller MPEG files so
that I can send hem via e-mail. My camera will not allow
being changed to capture in MPG mode, so I will have to
do it another way.

I was told to try Windows MovieMaker 2, but I still
cannot see where that option is allowed. Am I wrong ???

If not, which is the best software to use simply to
convert AVI o MPG ????.

Larry,

They probably didn't mean to use Movie Maker to convert the file to MPEG,
just to make smaller files to email. They would be WMV files, probably
smaller and better than MPEG.
