Can you please explain the usage of /x switch while
running convert command. The help provided is not self
explainatory.
 
It means that if the volume is mounted it will be dismounted and all shares
or attached users will be dropped.

It allows you to disconnect a drive that is visible in windows from use,
so you can convert it while Windows is running. You cannot do it for
any drive in use by the system - the one with Windows, the one booted
(if different or the one with the page file (again if different).
Generally better I would say to let convert set up to run at boot,
before Windows starts, and essential for one of those in use in that way
like C:
