Convert Text to Numbers

I have a range that I need to convert from text to numbers.
When I multiply by 1 using the paste special multiply the
text doesn't convert to numbers. Help Is there an other
way?

Then there are other characters involved as well,
select the range, do edit>replace, find what hold down alt while typing 0160
on the numpad
release alt and click replace all...

Can you give us an example of how that text appears in the formula bar?

The text looks like a number i.e 2.4
I am copying the data from a CSV file and only the last
column is stored this way. So far I have only been able to
convert it one cell at a time but I have thousands of line
so that's not an option. (I have Excel 2002 10.4)

pearsons <cellview> addin which will show you any hidden characters.
