Convert NTFS problem

I'm converting a Fat32 partition to NTFS, which I've done many times before,
however this time I'm having a problem. The convert startes out fine until it
get to the phase where it is checking for disk space for file conversion and
then it appears to stop. It's a 6 gig partition with 2gig of free space on it
so I don't think space is an issue. It's not a system partition, and the
existing file system has no errors. I've tried it several times, as well as
waiting several hours to see if it would complete the conversion but nothing
has happened. The drawback is I can't figure out how to stop the conversion
from starting at bootup. Does anyone know what startup file has the switch to
start this conversion at bootup and how to turn it off.

Thanks

Hello, AJF::
Can you get into the startup-options screen & switch to Safe Mode?
And start the system successfully from that point?

If I try to get into safe mode it hangs when loading the MUP.sys file so I'm
assuming even in safe mode it is still trying to do the conversion and
failing.

Hello, AJF::
Forgive me for asking the pedestrian-obvious question BUT--assuming
you have the install disc, have you considered booting the box from
the XP disc & attempting a repair install?
Just an idea....Another option using the install disc would be to get
into Recovery Console & doing a rebuild on the boot files.....
BTW, as you're probably aware of, if you Google for "mup.sys" you get
over 59K hits, most of them concerned with boot & hang-up problems.

Hi

Yes I've tryed booting off the install disk as well as working with several
other disk utility software packages (Partition magic, etc.) but have not
come up with a answer to this problem yet. Though I can look at the key
startup files I haven't yet been able to find the actual command that starts
the conversion at startup. If I could just find a way to stop the conversion
at bootup I would be happy as it is not critical that this drive be converted
to NTFS. I thought it would be a simple answer but so far I haven't found it.
