Convert MOV to AVI video files

L

Leo R.

Hello All,
Can anyone suggest a good freeware program to convert .mov video clips to
..avi video files please. I have bought a new digicam which produces .mov
files which seem limited to Quicktime players so all my .avi processing
stuff won't work on them. Have just spent a couple of hours with Google but
can't find anything which works.
TIA

There is a Quicktime reader plug-in for TMPGEnc which lets you convert
..mov directly to .mpg. I got it from

I use this program...

The program is free with an option to support the program by donation
if you like it and find it really useful.

Hi again Colin,
Please excuse my ignorance but is this a plugin for Quicktime Player or is
Quicktime Reader a different program? If it is then I can't find it.

Its a file (QTReader.vfp) that, once you download, you put in the same
directory as a program called TMPGEnc. Once there, TMPGEnc can convert
mov to mpg.

However unless you have a fresh install of TMPGEnc (30 days trial)
it will only convert to AVI not mpg.

Hi Omar,
I have TMPGEnc ver 2.5 which states it is freeware, however the splash
screen says the MPEG-2 encoder will only function for 30 days. I am assuming
that the lower level encoder will continue to work after that time. BTW both
levels will convert .mov to .mpg.
Thanks for your input.

Bollocks. The 30-day trial is for MPEG-2 encoding, not for MPEG-1.
