Convert from FAT 32 to NTSF

I just used the convert utility to convert a 30 gig partition from FAT 32 to NTSF and was surprised to find it showing that 28 gig is 'used' and only 2 gig is available now. Before the convert 29 gig was available.

Any help will be appreciated.

Try running CHKDSK with the /F option on the partition. A reboot may be
required to allow XP to perform this task.

Get the full version of Diskeeper, then perform a boot-time defrag of
directories and the MFT. If the swap file is on this partition, also do a
boot-time defrag of that.

Hello Bob,

I have run chkdsk with the /F option and that took care of the problem.
However, I have since run into trouble with this partition. I cannot write
to it. I have tried reformatting it using the WinXP tools and also partition
magic, and each time I get a message saying boot sector number two is
unwritable. The operation fails. What am I missing?
TIA
