Convert english to Bengali!!!

Not sure whether this is possible but here goes...........

Is it possible to convert text into Bengali??? Somebody wants to be able to
type into a document and then wants Word to show the text in Bengali. They
know the language but apparently it uses symbols rather than letters - is
there a way this can be done/???

Not without a translator and probably a Bengali version of Word. (Not sure
if it's available)
 
I'm not sure what you're asking here. There isn't any kind of language
conversion available in Word but if you simply want to type into Word in
Bengali script then I think you'll need a Bengali IME - and maybe enabled
support for Bengali in Word.
 
I found a solution!!

If you go into Control Panel, Regional and language options, Languages,
Detail and click onto Add, you can choose a language. I chose Bengali and
now when I type english, it automatically converts it into Bengali
language!!! Fantastic!!

Are you expecting that to produce readable, grammatical Bengali? I'm pretty
sure it's not going to, and I'm fairly sure that you are just typing
gibberish in Bengali script. Word doesn't translate languages, though
sometimes it makes it easy to pull from online translation sites.

However, you needed it for someone who knows the language, right, so all you
did need was a way to type in Bengali script.
 
The person I needed this for hasn't come back to me yet so I can't tell you
whether the translation of it returned 'proper' Bengali or jibberish.

When you say 'all i need is a way to type in Bengali script' - how do I do
that??

I think exactly the way you did it. You found the way to type in Bengali
script, by changing the language and keyboard layout in use.

My point is just that there is no conversion happening. Word is not
translating any languages. Rather, it has just changed the keyboard layout,
so that instead of the letter F, that key corresponds to some Unicode
Bengali character. But typing F-I-N-D is unlikely to produce an
understandable sequence of Bengali characters, and certainly not the Bengali
word for "find."

Bengali support was apparently just added with Windows XP SP2.
 
Ooooohhhhhhh!! I thought it was a bit clever, converting it for me!!
