Convert downloaded films to play in dvd player

Hi.Ive downloaded a number of films from the internet in
various forms eg;avi/divx/mpeg3/mpeg4.
I understand that i have to convert these films to mpeg1?
before i can convert them to vcd format.
Could someone please advise me of the best programme i
can purchase(preferably from the net) to enable me to do
this,(hopefully,one programme will cover all formats i
have)

Or alternatively he could go down to the store and BUY the films he's
stealing...
 
Maybe not, but you can pretty much guarantee that the films he's downloaded
from the net ARE...
