I'm searching a tool to convert CHM files in ONE step to ONE big output
file for easier reading. Output format should be one of the following :
HMTL, DOC, RTF, PDF
As far as I know, all tools doing this are either shareware or commercial
programs. You *can* get the *.html files (and all accompanied pictures)
back, as you sure will know. But the combination to one single file would
need a second step and an utility like Merger:

But if you only need an easier way to read through all topics
of a help file continuously, you might try HTML Help File Explorer of
Helpful Solutions:
www.helpfulsolutions.com
or the <Examine CHM File option> of the KeyTools program you find here:
www.keyworks.net
The latter is, IMHO, better for suited your purpose, as it displays
pages instantly while you browse the page list (left window pane) with
cursor keys, while the former needs you to additionally hit Enter (or
use a mouse double click).
HTH.
