Control panel is gone.

This is the third time I have had this happen in 4 days. If I click on
control panel any place it briefly pops-up on desktop but is empty. By
briefly I mean way less than a second.

Looking for a way to fix this without a complete re-install... again.

Thank you for any and all help.

Want to add some more information to this. When this happens I also lose my
sound card nearly every time (all but once). PC is fully up to date as far
as windows updates and all drivers go.

Sound card is soundblaster X-Fi extreme

Video is XFX 8800 GTX

Hi,

Simulate the problem by clicking Start, Control Panel.
Click Start, type eventvwr.msc and press ENTER
Double-click Windows Logs
Click "Application".

See if there are any events registered (see right hand side)

If the recent crash is registered, right-click on the event, click "Copy" and then choose "Copy Details as Text"

Also check the "System" log.

Post back the information here.

Hi there,

Well, one of my identical vaio notebooks lost its control panel (the
other one=perfect).
When i try to open it a window opens just for half a second and
dissapears again. If i use explorere and dropdown sidemenu i can see some
cpl items.

I can access all the cpl files if i use start+r to adjust things but
its very cumbersome.

I have been sent 2 hotfixes sofar but they didn't work.

That laptop is just a renderslave but i still would like to have it
optimal.
Any help is greatly welcomed.

Kind regards,
Kurt aka soontekk

Hi Ramesh,

Feels good someone looking into it.
Nomatter what i do i can't get an entry into the logs.

I'll try the hotfix again but it is one of the 2 i have tried sofar.
I will however try again (and download it from the problem pc this
time)
Should this not work i will wait for the vista service pack and hope
