Control Panel access

I just bought this computer with Widows Vista Premium preinstalled. I have
only had it a few days and now I cannot access Control Panel. A blank window
appears for a second or two and then it disappears. Any suggestions?

I've noticed a lot of people complaining about this over the last few weeks.
If nobody gives you an answer, try searching the group.

I think there may be several reasons why this may happen-
when this happened to me it was because "Software Licensing"
(SLsvc.exe) wasn't running in Services. Be sure it's set on "Automatic".

Thanks Michael and all who took the time to reply.
I ended up finding the answer to my problem on the Microsoft Knowledge Base.
Others have had the same problem and they already had a 'hotfix' constructed
to fix the problem. They sent me a link to the hotfix and a password via
email. It took about 30 seconds to download and another 30 seconds to
extract and install. The computer was restarted and all was well. :)

What was the KB article number or a link, please. This could help several
users who have asked about this.

Take care,

Michael

Jamie emailed me back, the KB article number is 929637.

Thank you, Jamie.

I remember this being a problem in the betas and early
after Vista was first released, but had totally forgotten about it.

Anyone else who think this hotfix may help them can go to the
link below and request it. They usually reply quickly, within a couple
of hours. Be sure to use KB article no. 929637 and a valid email address.
