control.exe taking up 96% of CPU

control.exe (Control Panel process) is taking up 96% of the CPU and locking my PC. I've terminated the process and restarted the PC but it seems to happen again from time to time. Any suggestions on why this would occur and how to troubleshoot/repair, other than just terminating the process?

I had the same problem-don't know why it occurs. It just happened one day; try using START-RUN-MSCONFIG-STARTUP and uncheck CONTROL (Command: C:\window\control.exe). There could be two entries one starting with SOFTWARE and the other with HKLM (in locations). Restart your computer. This worked for me. Hopefully someone will find out why this happens.
