control/alt-k [tab] address completion

Guest

Version 9.
Build 662
SP-
Cooperate/Workgrou

premise
user enters part of last or first name into the 'To' field when composing a new email message.
user then tries to autocomplete/fill address by using control/alt-k or tab

problem
if more than one entry exists of instances that share the same first or last name Outlook will only present one option
i.e. 'joe doe' exists in 'Contacts' and 'jane doe' exists in 'Global Address Book', Outlook will only find one entry for 'doe'. if it is 'jane' or 'joe' is determined by the search hierarchy defined in Control Panels -> Mail -> Addressing
this gets even more confusing if multiple entries for 'joe doe' exist (different persons!). Outlook will autocomplet/fill and the 'To' field will read 'Joe Doe', but which one?! unless you're confirming the properties of 'Joe Doe', you don't know who this message will be sent to

resolution?
1) how does Outlook need to be configured, so that all possible matches (i.e. 'doe') will be presented to the user upon using control/alt-k or tab prior to sending the email
2) what settings do i need to change so that the 'To' field will display the full email address and not a first and last name

thanks

1) This is the way Outlook has always worked. It searches address lists
sequentially. It's a fairly important performance issue. You can set the
sequence in Tools | Services | Addressing.

2) You can't really control that in Outlook 2000. Later versions give you a
way to set the display name for each person in your contacts folders.

1) outlook stops searching as soon as it finds a match or matches in the
first address book in the list
2) you can't change what is displayed - it should be underlined with a green
dotted line which alerts you to check for other matches. Type in more of the
name so it only has one match.
