Continuous Sending on Internet

John Williams

I installed XP several days ago and things have not gone well. First, I had
to fix the Blaster worm and now, when I go on the net everything happens at
a snail's pace if it happens at all.

When I sign onto the net (dialup), things are fine. Both send and receive
stop. However, when I access outlook express or go to a url, I go into
continuous send and my sent count just keeps going.

I tried to use housecall.antivirus.com but after several hours of trying to
download it had to give up.

I'm away from home for the holidays so am unable to install Norton
antiviirus which I had to uninstall for the XP loading. So, I'm not virus
protected.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

John

(Could these worms/viruses be in the XP upgrade software?)

If you think you have a virus you can use the online scan utility at
www.symantec.com. Go to the Security Response tab and then look for Free
Online Virus & Security check - centre of page.

This is the root of all of your troubles, connecting to
the internet without an updated anti-virus program is
like driving your car with your eyes shut and hoping that
you don't run into anything.

No.

Blaster and most other worms can be avoided on an unpatched XP simply by
using a properly configured firewall (patching should still be done to
close this security hole). Viruses are usually introduced to the system by
a user double clicking on something they shouldn't have.
