My computer all of a sudden now reboots before loading windows? it goes to
the winXP loading screen the reboots over and over? any ideas? I cannot even
get into safe mode.

Have you done a Google search? There are only 5,000+ items in Google
"Groups" for "XP keeps rebooting".

David

well,,something must have changed. Did you just install
SP2? What is probably happening is that windows is
crashing at start up. NT4,2000 and XP, by default,
automatically reboot when they crash (blue screen)and
since is crashing at startup it will immediately reboot
into an endless loop. This is a known issue with a
particular piece of spyware (TV Media) that may have been
installed on your computer before SP2 was installed.
Basically SP2 breaks the spyware and the result is exactly
what you describe. This is one of the biggest issues
regarding SP2 and has been addressed by Microsoft.

You will need to cut and paste this URL to visit the KB
article

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?
kbid=885523&product=windowsxpsp2

To confirm that you are getting this exact issue, you will
need to follow the instructions in the "SYMPTOMS" section
of the aforementioned URL. Once you have confirmed that
this is indeed the problem you are experiencing, you will
need to follow the instructions in the "MORE INFORMATION"
section of the aforementioned URL. If this is beyond your
skills (using recovery console) you will need to get your
computer to someone more experienced. I advise you ring MS
tech support, since this is a spyware related issue, they
SHOULD NOT charge you.

Thanks david, If I happen to have an issue with my Google software I will
contact them but I believe I will trust this one to someone here.

Thanks for yur post

Adapted from a Post from Kelly: I suggest using this method if you
have a proper retail type CD you can boot from: it is a result of a
Trojan being incompletely removed

A User Logon Request Is Rejected Without Any Messages
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=313322

If the above is not the case, this does work and has been verified:

This problem turns out to be that the Winlogon userinit entry is being
set to "wsaupdater.exe," and not "userinit.exe,".

Set the BIOS to boot CD before Hard Disk. Boot the XP CD and, instead
of Setup, take the immediate R for Repair. Assume any password
requested is blank, and TAB over.

Change the C:\Windows prompt to: C:\Windows\System32
by
CD System32
then
COPY userinit.exe wsaupdater.exe

Reboot into Safe Mode and use a run of regedit.exe:

Open to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT
\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

And in the right pane double click UserInit and change from
wsaupdater.exe to userinit.exe,

Then you can reboot and delete the wpaupdater.exe file
