Read the previous thread started by Tsuniper-X. Does seem in bringing up programs my P4 (3Ghz) is
not much faster than my 768Mhz P3 (WinMe). In opening a large graphic program such as PSP 9 the P4
takes 17 seconds. The P3 takes 22 seconds. Opening Photo Impact 10 takes 14 seconds on P4 and 17
seconds on P3. Not that big a difference. The P3 has 768MB mem and it's own 64MB video card. The P4
has 1Gig memory (could tell no difference in 512MB & 1Gig) plus integrated graphics which allows up
to 231MB of physical memory to be allocated.

In running benchmark tests the P4 runs circles around the P3. In Everest Home Edition test the P3
comes in #57 in Memory Read and #60 in Memory Write. Whereas the P4 comes in at #11 & #7
respectively. The hard disk cache on P3 is 114MB/s and the P4 is 600MB/s.

Video tests show the P3 Video (2D) at 121 MPixels/s and the P4 at 319 MPixels/s.

I would think that the P4 would be opening those programs in about 5 seconds rather than 15 - almost
same time as P3. Running same Virus & Firewall programs. Biggest difference is WinXP Home Edition on
P4 versus WinMe on P3.

I don't understand it.

Try testing on a more in-depth program like video editing,or even editing
music.With WM encoder,the socket 370 used about 17 CPU usage,another
later board used about 12-14,my earlier P4 5-7,latest P4 with HT more ram,
better agp card uses about 3-5.Thats not better, plus its more stable....

Processor speed isn't the critical factor when you're opening a program --
most of what's happening is that the data's being read off of the hard
drive.
