Continuation on Same Slide

I need to create a slide that displays 5-6 items, then pauses until the the
viewer is ready, and then displays additional items. I was hoping to put an
autoshape on the slide (that would be displayed after the first 5-6 items)
that the viewer could click when ready to continue, but I'm having trouble
getting it to continue on the same slide. You can hyperlink to most any
other place, but it doesn't seem to allow you to continue on the same slide.
I can right-click on the slide and select 'Advance', and it will continue on
the same slide. Is there some way to program it just to 'Advance' when you
click the autoshape?
