Context Menue

B

Bill W

I have installed quite a few programs on my computer. Now, when I right
click on a folder or on the START button, I get a context menue that spans
from top to bottom of the page and then more. I rather not uninstall
programs to trim the context menue. There are items on the menue that I do
not use or could access easily from the start menue. Is there any way I can
edit out unwanted items on the context menue. Any help will be appreciated.

Regards,
Bill

From Kelly's web site (invaluable for Windows XP users) :

Right Click Context Menus - Deleting entries

Customizing Right-Click Menu Options in Windows
http://www.jfitz.com/tips/rclick_custom.html

ContextEdit lets you control which items appear on your context menu (right-click) in
Windows Explorer.

Add, Modify, Disable, Delete Context Menu Listings (Line 23)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Manual info:

Click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT Go to:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\OpenWithList
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers

You can also go to a specific File extension (example: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.txt\ShellNew)
and right click on the ShellNew key and select Delete, if the item shows up in the New
context menu.

Expand the above branch and look through the sub-keys. Locate the one that corresponds to
the entry you wish to remove and right click that sub-key and select Edit.

You may wish to right click the desired sub-key and select Export. This will create a REG
file that you can double click to re-import the information, if you find out you deleted
the wrong one, or want it back.

The first link for Customizing Right-Click Menu Options in Windows works, but Kelly must
have deleted the second link from the "XP Tweaks" web site. The original poster can go to
