Contacts went Bye Bye

I loaded ACT! on the computer and set it up to use active sync between axim
and ACT!. We decided afterward not to use ACT! and took it off. When we did
this the contact list disappeared off axim but remained on Outlook. But,
when I activesynced, the contact list totally disappeared off both even
though computer was set up to overwrite handheld. Is there a way to recover
the contact list?

From your backup file.
When you remove Contacts by synchronizing incorrectly, they are usually
gone, but you can check in an activesync group to confirm.
