i have just installed outlook 2003 on a new computer and i have imported
contacts over from my old computer that was using outlook. the contacts are
shown in the new outlook and i can open and edit them ok, but when i open a
new message and type the name, it does not autofill the names or emails. when
i hit the "TO" button to insert addresses manually, i get this...

The address list could not be displayed. The Contacts folder associated with
this address list couiild not be opened; it may have been moved or deleted,
or you do not have permissions. For information on how to remove this folder
from the Outlook Address Book, See Microsoft Office Outlook Help.

i am the only user on a personal pc. i have not been able to find anything
in help.

Hi Adam,

Right-click on your contacts in the folder list. Scroll to properties. Click
on the Outlook Address Book tab. Make sure the following box is ticked: "Show
this folder as an E-mail Address Book."

Let me know if that helps. Happy Friday!

You didn't migrate properly and didn't configure the Outlook Address Book.

Why don't you delete your Outlook account, restart your PC, and then create a
new Outlook profile. When you do this and open Outlook, to open your PST use
File > Open instead of Import. Let me know if that helps.

Nope, sorry. i even went to the extent of reinstalling office. no change. i
may redo it again since the files from the previous install must have still
been on there.

hello kathleen,

i check the specified checkbox, but no change in behavior. i also had
trouble with having a duplicate personal folders folder with identical
folders listed underneath after i did the restore. by this i mean that i
copies the pst file from my old computer to my new. i wonder if these issues
are related?

thanks for the reply!

This is how you move a PST:
http://www.slipstick.com/emo/2002/up020605.htm#movetonew2002 and
http://www.howto-outlook.com/howto/backupandrestore.htm

Set things back to a clean state by renaming any existing PST so that ".pst"
is not its file extension and create a new mail profile with Control
Panel>Mail>Show Profiles>New
