Constant errors when installing things

I'm going to explain this issue I'm having as best I can. But seeing that I
am completely baffled from this it won't be an easy task to do. Hope I can
give you all enough info so someone can help me.

I built a new system with an AMD Athlon 64 +3500 on an Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe
board with 2 GB of DDR 400MHz. I'm running XP Pro.

When I try to download and install something I am constantly getting errors
stating the file is corrupted and the installation fails. I can go to the
same link as a few friends do to get a file, theirs works perfectly while
mine throw off an error. For instance, I am trying to install the software
from Logitech for my steering wheel from the following site.

http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/downloads/software/US/EN,CRID=1788,contentid=6203,OSID=1

When I run the download I get the following error.

"The contents of this file cannot be unpacked. The executable you are
attempting to run has been corrupted. Please obtain another copy of the
file, verify it's integrity, and try again."

As I said before, I get simular errors all the time with just about anything
I try installing from a download. Zipped files say "This is not a valid .rar
file and that the file has been corrupted" yet my other buddies have no
trouble with the same file.

I have tried all I can think of to resolve this but to no availe. I can
give you any other information you may need if any. Please help if you have
any ideas and Thank You in advance.

Try disabling Data Execution Prevention (DEP) in System Properties -
change it to Windows protection only. I've had similar problems with a
new AMD processor-based computer and this change seems to have stopped
this erroneous behavior of archive files.
