Connects to network, but no internet

I'm having a problem with a friends computer. The computer had gotten a few viruses (backdoor.coreflood), I ran NAV and removed the 3 viruses.

I've also done a repair installation of XP.

Now my problem is I can't do anything on the internet. I am trying to connect to either my dsl connection (VOL), or my regular dial-up. Both connections show the computer authenticating succesfully, and show that I'm connected, but I can't do anything once I'm online.

I can't get to any websites, I can't even update my NAV definitions..although with both connections, they show me being connected.

Any suggestions? Is there anyway I can completely repair all the network connections in the registry?

Thanks for any help.

Have you checked the registry to ensure the virus does not
start up
(HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersi
on\Run)? Anything in your hosts file that shouldn't be
there?

Verify the Bios time verses Windows XP time.
They should be an exact match.
If they're off, you could get an error your describing.
I had to do a complete reinstall of Windows XP to include
a complete repartitioning of my C: drive to correct the
problem.
