Hi everybody !
Since I am not sure what exactly is the problem I'm experience here, I will
post at "general discussion".
First of all, a list of hardware & software I use - those that might be
related to this issue:
Hardware: P4 3GHz, 2GB RAM, ATI x850 graphics, Intel Gigabit PCI card +
Marvell Yukon Gigabit onboard network adapter
Software:Vista Ultimate(UAC enabled, 32bit version), IE7(phishing filter OFF
for now), Trend Micro Internet Security 2008(that's
antivirus+firewall+phishing filter & so on - windows firewall & anti-spyware
software are disabled).
Internet connection: PPPoE broadband, 4Mb
I did a fresh re-install of the OS and set-up the PPPoE connection and
installed the available updates(OS, IE7, even some drivers for my LAN cards).
I always get those 4Mb while downloading(even 4MB where peering is available).
The problem is that when I open a IE7 instance and enter an URL, the
computer "thinks" too much(aka 10-15 seconds, sometimes even more). It was
hell on Earth to reach this community page and search for answers. It took
long as well to change the default search engine implemented in IE7.
I started of couse digging for answers - came across several forums where
McAfee was to blame(but this is not the answer I am looking for). Another one
pointed me to a Microsoft knowledge base
article(URL=http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928089) and kept my fingers
crossed, hoping it would help me. Unfortunately, after downloading the file,
I tried to install it, but a pop-up dialog-box informed me that the patch was
not aplicable to my system(perhaps this patch was already included in the
updates I did upon installation).
I also tried disabling the phishing filter included in IE7.
Tried lowering Trend Micro's firewall protection level, to no avail. Also, I
scanned my hdd's for anything suspicious, still nothing.
Tried connecting with my other LAN card, same thing.
I'm out of ideas. Suggestions are welcome !
Thank you !
