Connection activity icon

I set up a new Vista Home Basic system for a friend yesterday and the
Dial-up Internet Connection activity icon is NOT in the notification area. I
checked Customize Notifications and it's not even offered. Checked Modem and
Network Settings for a "Show Icon..." but it's not present. Any other way to
activate the icon?

Try going into Taskbar and Start Menu Properties > Notification Tab and make
sure a check is in "Network" in the "System Icons" area of the dialog box.

Vista uses that one icon to show the status of any and all connections,
dial, wired, wireless, etc.
