I'm pretty new in networking issue. Lately I been tried to connect my laptop
(XP Pro) with Dell desktop (XP Home) using crossover cable directly. To share
files and printer/scanner.

Both PCs shows Loca Area Connection status connected at 10.0 Mbps. But both
PC can't ping each other.

any advice will be appreciated. Thanks

Run the Network Setup Wizard on both computers. It will make all the
necessary settings to share files and printers between them.

If there's a firewall program (Norton, McAfee, PC-cillin, ZoneAlarm,
etc) on either computer, configure it to allow access by other
computers on the local area network. Note that some antivirus
programs, like Norton Antivirus 2005 and PC-cillin, contain firewall
components.

Sharing a scanner is only possible if the scanner manufacturer or a
third party supplies software to do it. Windows doesn't have that
capability built in. Here's one possible source:

What is the IP address and subnet mask of each computer? How is it
assigned?

Hi Steve
Thanks for the respond. I had tried several times setting up the Network
Setup Wizard on both system, no luck. Windows firewall unable for both. I'm
using AVG for XP Home & Avast for XP Pro, tried to disable, still no luck.

I set desktop (Home)
IP: 192.168.0.1
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
(using dial up)

Laptop (Pro)
IP: 192.168.0.2
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
(wireless connection)
