Connecting XP Home to Windows 2000 Network

I am trying to network a Windows XP home computer into a Windows 2000 Server Network. It is at a small business where I have no administrator and so I suspect I have to set something up on the server

Problem: I see the server on the Domain Workgroup but when I try to connect to the computer it asks for login and password. When I try to put in my login on the network it changes my login name to "computer name/login name" and won't log in

Why can't I log in to the server and see the shared directories on the server. And once I get in, how can I map to the shared directories on the server without having to manually click on the connection every time like I have to do on one of my other XP machines

home doesn't support Domains anyway.
There is an application from http://www.xteq.com that has an option that
allows you to set up xp home machines to log on to domains. I haven't tried
it so I can't say either way whether it works.
