We are about to upgrade our WINNT server (WINS Domain) to either WIN2000
server or WIN2003 server. We have a around 6 WIN98/WINME workstations plus a
WINXP Are there any issues I should be concerned about (or Microsoft
bulletins) that affect logging in to a domain set up on this new server OS
and subsequent satisfactory working Presumably this would be a DNS domain We
use a simple logon script to map a network drive

Any advice on which server is best. I was wondering if 2003 had had a SP
release yet

Many thanks

Mike Saunders

Make sure WINS is installed and that you have options 044 and 046 (0x8) in
DHCP-server, Scope options.
There is no SP for Windows 2003 yet.

Are you saying that for WIN9X clients a WINS domain has to be the option
chosen
and that DNS is not suitable or could we reconfigure clients to use DNS. I
am not sure of the pros/cons or issues with either choice

(Sorry I also replied in e-mail)

Thanks

Mike

Hi Mike,

W9x, ME and NT4 don't use DNS like W2K and XP. They need WINS. Just install
WINS on the server and make sure you have options 044 and 046 (0x8) in
DHCP-server, Scope options.

Regards,

Marina
