I just got a new computer and want to transfer files and apps from my old
computer w/o transfering first to cd. I tried a network cable connector
direct but the other hard drive didn't show up. they both have satelite
capabilities if that does any good.
I have windows XP home edidtion, my old laptop is an a Averatec and the new
one a Toshiba.
thanx

Hi,

You need a crossover cable to connect them directly, a regular network cable
won't do it. Otherwise, you need to use a router and connect both machines
to it with network cabling. By the way, apps need to be installed on the new
system, you can't just transfer the program files. Only data can be
transferred from one system to the other.

I have the same problem. I do have a router. What do I do to transfer
files from the old Computer to the new one?

Access the other computer by typing it's computer name or IP address in
Start, Run dialog:

Examples:
\\computername
\\192.168.1.10

Your systems need to have file sharing enabled, and a folder should be
shared for network access.
