connecting Sprint Pocket PC

I just purchased Sprint 6700 Pocket PC containing Windows Mobile. I cannot
get MS ActiveSync to work. The message on Connection Settings says "Waiting
for divice to connect".

My PC is a Toshiba A75-S209 running off-the-shelf Windows XP Professional.

I have tried new USB cables. Sprint tested the phone and says it is OK. I
restarted my computer with Selective Startup and all optional tasks
disabled.

Which version of activesync? was it included with the phone?
Are language versions same for Windows and activesync?

I upgraded to 4.2 which is the latest.

the phone included version 4.0

The new version does diagnostics which I sent to MS.

Windows XP 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301 - 1519 : Service Pack 2)
