I have a Netgear DG834GT ADSL/Router, with one PC hard-wired in, and a few
laptops connecting via Wi-Fi.

I am getting a new PC and this is going up into the loft for my development.
I want to connect this also, and I was wondering what sort of cable I should
use. I have a length of cable that was used to connect a PC to a floor LAN
port, it has usual Ethernet type connectors at each end. It will fit, but
should I look for best quality (whatever that is), and what do I do if it is
too short. Should I consider Wi-Fi for this box also.

All advice would be welcomed. B TW, the box will be XP-Pro, but I will
install Virtual PC and have other stuff on as well.

Thanks

Bob

Does the signal deteriorate at any point, needing boosters or whatever?

What is the distance from the router to the "area" of this new PC? I believe
that if the cable is correctly made, the max length of the cable is about 300
feet / 100 m. After, you will need to look at specialised cable boosters or
repeaters.

Thanks Yves, that will be sufficient.
