I'm not sure if this the right board to post on so if it's not please point
me in the right direction!
Could someone please tell me how to connect a laptop to a tv? we've bought a
vga cable and plugged it into the tv and pc, on starting up the computer it
looks great with the picture showing on the tv and the monitor on the laptop.
but once the windows loading screen (the one with windows and a scrolling bar
in the middle of the screen) finishes, the tv goes blank and won't show
anymore! help please??!! I don't know what to do! thanks in advance for any
help

If you see the boot screen on the TV, but nothing after that, it's easy to
fix. Try one of these ways:

A) On your laptop, there is almost always a shotcut key to enable/disable
secondary monitor output. It usually involves pressing a FN or color-coded
key at the same time as a F-button on the keyboard. Look for a symbol that
looks like a box surrounded with | bars, or something similar, and try
invoking that option. Wait a few seconds at least before repeating it,
because it usually takes a few seconds to adjust and actually turn on.
Depending on your laptop, that option usually toggles among the following:
(1) laptop screen only, (2) laptop+TV, (3) TV only.

If that doesn't work, try this (or try this second to customize how it
behaves)
B) Boot your PC up with the TV connected.
-- Open up Display Properties (right-click desktop, Properties). On the
Settings Tab, click the second screen in the graphic to select it, then click
"Extend My Windows Desktop On To This Monitor".
-- Click Apply.
-- You should now be able to move your cursor from the laptop screen to the
TV screen. Click the "Identify" button to see how it's configured.

Hope that works... post back if you need anything else.
