Connecting Ipaq begins install of Outlook 2002

A friend is having a problem, outlook 2002 was deleted from their laptop.
Ipaq then wouldn't sync. I Installed outlook from an office 2003 CD. Ipaq
syncs with IT, BUT some sort of install loop for Outlook 2002 starts as
well, when it is cancelled, an error box appears, close that and it
restarts, same loop until ipaq is disconnected.
I don't know much about the IPAQ at this point(model/firmware), the laptop
is a newer HP XP SP2 all updates.

Is there a way to reset this whole setup without losing the information
stored on the IPAQ ?

What could be the issue here...simply that it doesn't work with the 2003
version of outlook?
I will try to get more information, but though I would see if there is
anything I can do in the mean time.

Thanks

I have no idea why either - I'd try this though:

Thanks, but don't think this is the issue, the unit will not sync to the
desktop either.

*chuckles* Well then at least hopefully you'll be able to clear up the
Outlook 2002 installation process? Though if it's not syncing with both of
them I too doubt that's the problem.

I had a similiar issue with my IPaq software - though not quite as severe as
your friends though. I've also used my IPaq synch. software with my O 2K3
with no probs. IMHO I think your friend will have to do a THOROUGH uninstall
of the IPaq Synch. software, reboot, and reinstall software.
My experience with reinstalling this software is the "old" folder with the
copy of the IPaq files won't be recognized. So, your friend will have to
email the contents of that folder to hold what good data your friend has.
After the software is reinstalled do a send/receive to get the data files
back/ then cut/paste file attachment to "new" location and should be good to
go.
If this doesn't work, the next step would be to reset (format) the IPaq and
uninstall / reinstall synch. software. I know. *Owch!*

After much trial and tribulation i was able to remove all installations of
outlook and ms office and a rouge outlook 2002 installation exe that had
somehow attached itslef to the outlook 2003 exe. It was weird, outlook 2003
would start, sync with the IPAQ and almost immediately an install for 2003
would start and then fail looking for a particlualr .dll and go into the
loop i described.
ANYWAY, once i cleared all that out, i reinstalled office XP(outlook 2002)
and everything returned to normal.
Thanks for the replies .
