newbie question - just purchased laptop and created Powerpoint presentation
(XP Pro-Office 2003) - I am a retired educator and need to know the
following. What do I need to hookup the laptop to either a projector or tv.
Hopefully soon, I shall be giving presentations (perhaps also in the UK -
240v). I assume the places I'll visit (mainly universities) will have
projector or tv to hook up to but I have no idea what to ask for in the way
of hardware to be available to me nor how to hookup (what cables, what to
plug in and where, etc). I'm not particularly technie-savvy so answers in
detail please - thanks.

In the US, I would tell them to supply a 1024 x 768 projector with a
standard VGA connector. I assume it is pretty much the same on the other
side of the pond. Voltage should not play into it, since the VGA out signal
is the same regardless of the voltage the computer or projector uses. Of
course this depends on you having a standard VGA out jack available (second
video card on desktop or VGA out on a laptop).

As for TV out, this depends on if your laptop is equipped with a S-video out
jack. If it has one, then a standard S-video link up will do for displaying
(but you may need to make some changes on your laptop display settings to
make it display correctly on the TVs). If you do not have an S-video out
jack, then they will need to supply a VGA to RCA converter (then all the
above from the VGA out item apply).

What Bill said. And also, make sure that your laptop has a standard VGA
computer video output jack. Some lappies don't, so you'll need a monitor
adapter. If so, one probably came with the computer, but make sure you bring
it along.

thanks for your help and info - much appreciated
