Configuring internet connection

Guest

I am new to Windows XP and have just installed it on my pc. I have set up my
(long standing) internet connection, but for some reason, Windows is putting
its own password in the dial up settings password box. I have not put any
passwords on Windows XP at all myself. Windows is setting up a 16 digit
password and I have no idea what it is, or how to get rid of it. If I delete
the password, it stays blank, but even if I put one digit in and ok it, when
I re-visit the pc has defaulted to a 16 digit password. Meanwhile I cannot
access the internet at all. Can anyone help or advise, I would be most
grateful.

The 16 * characters are to disguise the password. Even if your password is
(for example) 1234, XP will show 16 *s so that perhaps 'guests' cannot guess
that it might actually be 1234.
