configuring GAL 2003

I am not certain how to import other distribution lists into Outlook 2003 GAL
whereas it was easily done with a .CSV file in 5.5. I am equally uncertain
about how the drop down list is customized...ie what attribute does it filter
from? Any assistance is appreciated.

Maybe you could clarify just what you're trying to do, since there's no such thing as "Outlook 2003 GAL."

I am speaking of the Global Address List in Outlook 2003. We would like to
import lists of addresses and then configure the drop down global address
list to filter appropriately...such as adding a list from the XYZ branch that
we would see as XYZ in the drop down menu. As I mentioned in the previous
note, this was done via a CSV file in Exchange 5.5, but it appears that we
have downgraded in 2003.

Ah, that's a question you'll want to ask in the microsoft.public.exchange.admin newsgroup, since it's an Active Directory/Exchange issue, not an Outlook issue.
