Configure LAN

My small network consists of one desktop and one laptop, both with Windows XP
Home. I installed a new router, Netgear Maxrange Next and it works allright
with the internet connection, but I cannot connect to LAN. I have run the
LAN- guide several times, but I still cannot see the computers of my
workgroup, on the desktop. I have sought solutions on microsoft articles and
found one, 318030, that should solve my problem, but it did not. I installed
the router with the CD inclosed in the package. I suspect that the firewalls
may have something to do with my problem but I don't know how to configure
these. I have Norton Internet Security firewall, firewalls within the router
and Windows firewall. Anyone who recognize this problem?

Running more than one firewall on a computer can cause network
problems. Since Norton Internet Security is installed, turn off the
Windows Firewall.

The router's firewall blocks access from other people on the Internet
to your computers. It shouldn't prevent your computers from
connecting to each other.

What "LAN-guide" did you run? Do you mean XP's Network Setup Wizard?
If you run the Wizard, tell it that the computer connects to the
Internet through a residential gateway, and tell it to enable File and
Printer Sharing.

To see if Norton Internet Security is causing the problem, temporarily
disable its firewall, or start the computers in Safe mode with
networking.
